PostHeaderIcon The Benefits of an Online Anatomy Course

Many people today have the need or the desire to learn more about human anatomy and physiology, and oftentimes taking an online anatomy course is the best way to learn. You will find that there are several different learning methods that you can pursue, but there are some key benefits of taking your educational course online versus using one of the alternatives, so exploring these benefits in more detail is in your interest.

Thorough Education

Most people who sign up to take an online anatomy course do have a very specific reason for taking such a course. Some need the knowledge that such a class provides for a professional certification or a degree, and others may need it to further their degree or for some other important reason. Whatever your own reasons are, you will find that the incredible amount of detail of the human body can be difficult to learn at the face pace that other learning environments require, so having the ability to learn at your own pace provides you with a more thorough education.

Backtracking

Taking an anatomy and physiology class is unlike taking other classes because of the detail of the different systems of the body. From knowing the names of each of the bones in the human body to learning the various ligaments, tendons, nerves, organs, and more, the material covered can be complex to say the least. With an online anatomy course, you often have the ability to backtrack and review lessons as needed, and this is not possible with other types of structured learning environments.

Flexible Schedule

In addition to the key educational benefits that come with taking an online anatomy course, such as learning at your own pace and being able to backtrack and review material as needed, many people do find that the flexibility in when and even where you learn with an online class is beneficial. Many people who sign up for such a course are considered to be non-traditional students or otherwise are traditional students who already are taking a heavy course load of classes. So the flexibility of choosing when to hop online and complete or review a lesson is beneficial.

Right for You?

An online anatomy course does indeed provide you with quite a few benefits, and the benefits listed here are among the top benefits that you would enjoy if you sign up to take your anatomy and physiology course online. Yet this type of course is not right for every student. Some students struggle in a learn-at-your-own-pace environment and will do better when they learn in a structured, live environment. Others learn better in an environment with live peers and a live instructor who can answer their questions in a real-time way. Clearly, there is no right or wrong answer as to which type of course you should take to earn this credit, but many students do find that the benefits of taking the class online are in their best interest for their education and their schedules alike.

These are individuals who simply want to learn the material in full detail.

For Professional Tests

Some students need some extra help to study for professional tests, and some of these are intro exams that you need to pass in order to work in a certain field or job while others are for continuing education tests. Many different areas of health care and other industries require knowledge of the human body, so there are many people who need to learn the material covered in such a course for their professional needs. An anatomy course online is a great way to learn for these purposes as it gives you the opportunity to learn the material in a thorough, self-guided way.

Slow or Thorough Learners

You will find that when you sign up to take an anatomy course online, you will enjoy a very thorough way to learn the subject material Some people who need to learn this material may naturally learn at a slower pace than others or may have the desire to be thorough in learning the material and do not want to be rushed through a live format course. PostHeaderIcon Deriving Nutrients From Ocean Life

The oceans cover 71% of the planet’s surface. They are home to an uncountable number of different species of plants and animals. Just like on land, these animals have adapted to their surroundings by many different methods. Some grow like weeds do on the surface. Some swim throughout the oceans whereas others grow slowly over millennium. Many of these animals and plants are rich in minerals and nutrients which makes them perfect for your garden. Everything from fish to sea weed can be used to give your plants all of the essential ingredients for a healthy garden. The main nutrients surface plants need to thrive are nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, some trace elements, amino acids, and vitamins. There are many fertilizers that already provide all of these nutrients but many of them can also be obtained naturally from the sea. Some of the life in the sea that is useful as nutrients for your plants includes kelp meal and extract as well as fish emulsions. Besides these main two there are many other marine-based plant fuels.

Kelp grows naturally all over the ocean. You often see it drifting to shore and washed up on beaches. It is the weed of the ocean. Kelp and some of the other seaweeds are great sources of essential nutrients for plant growth. Kelp meal is available to anyone interested in growing in either a meal form which takes the form of a dried powder or as an extract which is a liquid. Kelp meal can be applied to the top layer of soil or mixed into the pot prior to planting. It slowly breaks down over time giving plants everything they require. Kelp extract on the other hand can be mixed into any hydroponic solution or put in water that will later be applied to plants. There are several important nutrients contained in kelp including phosphorous, nitrogen, and potassium and it is an organic source of over 60 different trace elements. All of these resources are in a water soluble state. Seaweed and kelp also are very rich in many vitamins as well such as A, C, E, and B-12. They also contain amino acids and plant hormones. There are other advantages to a kelp based diet for plants. Kelp breaks down quickly making essential nutrients quickly available to plants. Kelp also increases the activity of the ecosystem around the plants roots. The one downside to using kelp is that earthworms are unable to break it down. Besides this kelp works wonders in the garden.

Fish can also be a great source of plant food. Fish meal and fish emulsions are both organic and are highly nutritious (at least to plants). Fish meal is dried and ground whole fish or fish trimmings with the majority of the fish oil removed during the drying process. This is done to keep the fish meal from going rancid. Fish meal, similarly to kelp, contains nitrogen, phosphorous, and an abundance of trace elements. However, it is not a good source of potassium. Similar to kelp it is also a bio-activator. The one downside to using fish meal as plant fuel is the order. It smells strongly of fish. In order to control the odor you can cover the fish meal with a layer of top soil.

Fish emulsion is the liquid form of fish meal. It is made by using enzymes that partially digest and ferment fish remains. Fish emulsion is high in nitrogen, phosphorous, and contains many trace elements. Since it has already been broken down and is in liquid form when compared to fish meal the nutrients it contains are made available to plants almost immediately. It is also almost impossible to overfeed making it quite safer than fish meal. Fish meal can also be used with hydroponics setups.

Whether you decide to use kelp based sources of nutrients or decide to go with either fish meal or fish extract your plants will be happy. The ocean is full of biodiversity and much of that biodiversity can be used for many different home based uses. From food to plant nutrients the water has always benefited humanity.

PostHeaderIcon The Brain And It’s Four States

The brain is a most incredible organ and is the foundation from which all cognition, feeling, emotion and movement stems from. The nervous system in its entirety is present in every part of the body. The brain itself is a powerhouse of neurons which communicate via the brain stem and spinal cord with the rest of the body. The central nervous system is connected to every element of the body by nerves. Nerves are the vehicles that carry impulses from the body to the brain and from the brain to the body, ensuring adequate communication. Not only does the brain rely on nerves in order to communicate with the body and vice-versa, but it also relies on intertwined chemicals such as hormones and peptides which travel through the bloodstream.

The brain functions according to certain frequencies and these frequencies are often called states. The Brain has four states in which it functions within. The first state is called the Beta state and it is in this state that your brain is possibly the most alert. It is in this state that concentration and cognition takes place most easily and that is why it is better to study in the Beta state than in the Alpha state. Beta waves or frequencies range between 13-40 HZ and this state is most associated with intense concentration, razor-sharp alertness, visual and physical coordination. The Nobel Prize winner, Sir Francis Crick and his colleague Kock, believe that 40HZ beta frequency is where cognition and consciousness is generated.

The second brain state is the Alpha state which encompasses relaxation and visualisation and other forms of creativity. The brain is now no longer in a heightened state of awareness and readiness as it was in the Beta state, instead it is calming down and is becoming more relaxed within the Alpha state. Alpha waves range between 7-12 HZ and in this range, the brain is most relaxed and is in this state, an individual is most likely to bring forth creativity and innovation.

The third brain state is the Theta state which is the state that moves beyond the Alpha state and is in a deeper state of relaxation whereby the person will experience a sense of “floating” almost. In the Theta state, your brain is looking within and it is in this state that the brain is able to access memories, innovative ideas and flash-like dream states. Theta waves range between 4-7 HZ and it is here that the brain taps into unconscious awareness.

The fourth brain state is the Delta state which is the state moving beyond the Theta state where the brain is no longer aware or at least there is a sense of detached awareness. In addition, the brain is now in sleep mode and this Delta state triggers the release of Human Growth Hormone which proceeds to heal the body while in the sleep state. It is here that the subconscious functions at its best and during the time of Delta state, the body is rejuvenated.

The four brain states come together in perfect unity in order to ensure the brain functions at its optimum.

PostHeaderIcon Make The Most Out of Anatomy and Physiology Study

In order to fully prepare for your anatomy and physiology exams, you have to be equipped with a good quality revision plan in writing and you must also have a range of questions and quizzes that you can use throughout your studies. A good anatomy and physiology quiz guide will have these questions and puzzles and you must make sure that you always have one. There are many different sections under each body system and these areas should be studied individually. For example, if you are studying the skeletal system, learn long bones one day and learn short bones the next day. Make sure that you take the relevant points from each area and write them out in your own writing. Always keep your notes clear and concise so you are sure of exactly what you need to study.

I would always recommend using a folder for your notes, you can separate them using clear plastic envelopes, these keep everything organised. I would also advise that you take some questions and puzzles from you anatomy and physiology quiz guide and include them in your folder. As an example, I will condense an area of the skeletal system, joints, down into notes to give you an idea of what points to include.

A joint is formed when 2 or more bones come together, they hold the bones together and enable the skeleton to move. Joints are classified into 3 different types:

1. Fibrous – this is a fixed joint where no movement is possible. Between the bones you will find bands of tough fibrous tissue. These type of joints hold the teeth in the jawbone.

2. Cartilaginous – this is a slightly moveable joint where slight movement is possible. They are composed of pads of fibrocartilage between the bones which act as shock absorbers. Examples include, pads in between the vertebrae.

3. Synovial – this is a freely moveable joint. Filled with synovial fluid, these type of joints allow movement in many directions and are the main joints in the body.

a) Ball & Socket – this type of joint is the most freely moveable and allows movement in several directions including, adduction, abduction, flexion, extension, rotation and circumduction. Examples include shoulder and hip joint.

b) Hinge – this joint allows movement in one direction only, such as either flexion or extension. The knees and elbows are types of hinge joints.

c) Gliding – these type of joints allow bones to glide over each other and are often regarded as the least moveable of all joints. Examples can be found in the wrists, ankle and spine.

d) Saddle – movements possible include flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and limited rotation. There is a saddle joint in the thumb.

e) Pivot – this allows a rotation movement. Examples include the first two cervical vertebrae.

f) Condyloid – this type of joint allows movement is 2 directions such as flexion, extension, adduction and abduction. There is no rotation. There are condyloid joints in the wrist.

This just gives you a fundamental understanding of the types of joints and their functions, but that is all you need when you are filling out your notes. Take any questions you have on this section from your anatomy and physiology quiz guide and include them in your notes. You can be fully confident in a successful outcome in your exams once you are organized in this way.
